Doctor ads tout Shilohs Cure and other remedies sold by Mumford Jr. Also mentions county committee meeting and upcoming fairs at Mt Vernon and New Harmony.
Dr Blue Mountain Joe headlined a Saturday fair with a four mile two horse race, mule riding, balloon ascent and parachute jump. J Jaquess won the trotting and Fount Hawkins the running race. Mt Vernon Rabens beat Poseyville Noels 24 4 in baseball. Night events sparked a fire scare and mixed crowds with disorder.
A long list of residents and visitors appear in town notes. Many travelers and guests are named with movements to Grayville Mt. Vernon Evansville Chicago and Stewartsville while local events include a hammock party at Hunsdon’s grave and appearances by J Breith Peter Weber Jasper Stallings and others at a Democratic convention. Also noted are meetings teachers institutes and a circus trip by J Bennett and son Pami with B M Joe’s circus.
Jo Hofreiter caught the champion turtle of the season last Saturday while fishing in the river. The soft shell specimen measured about 12 by 16 inches across the back and weighed close to 15 pounds.
John Fillingim hauled the season’s largest catfish from the Wabash River at Ball’s Point last week. The 85 pound lure of a fish was described as nearly large enough to bite off a man’s arm.
The Mt. Vernon Sun reports Judge Lilly will hold court in Hazard Kentucky for the first time in ten years. The court will sit in a big tent surrounded by militia amid threats to the judge. Perry County remains a Republican stronghold with heavy GOP support in elections. The piece urges federal military intervention to protect proceedings.
Judge Richardson will convene the Posey county circuit court in Mt. Vernon next Monday.
