In Kennard a suspected smallpox case proved to be French measles after doctors investigated. William Hamilton's son Burt fell ill and prompted a health check by Dr. W H Stafford. Dr. De R Hy Smith approved the quarantine, which will be lifted tomorrow as fears subside.
Residents face extensive sewers and heavy traffic with optimism. Authorities repair and rebuild the streets using nearby gravel. The writer urges calm, praises trustees, and calls for cool, constructive action to restore New Castle as a leading town in Eastern Indiana.
June 9 marriage to be held at Grace Episcopal Church Baltimore Maryland between Strickland W Gillilan and Miss Harriet Nettleton of Los Angeles California. Gillilan is a former Richmond Palladium city editor and now humor editor of the Baltimore American, noted poet and author of the poem Off again on again gone again Flangan.
Rain yesterday left South 11th Street near Circle nearly impassable as grading and widening work paused. Residents fear closure continues until sidewalks and completion are finished.
A merged company formed last March by Union Traction and Indianapolis Northern filed its agreement with the county recorder. The voluminous document details capitalization and corporate structure as part of the consolidation.

The Canadays welcomed relatives including Mrs. Lee Ault and Hattie Jewett as Mies Hattie Aunt recovered from a long illness, marking a time of rejoicing. Mrs. Jewett plans a week or more in the city, while Mrs. Canaday and Mrs. Ault will host for a few days.
New Castle forms a fifteen piece band under William Gaddis and C E Hall with young players from Jr O U A M. The ensemble renamed from Industrial to Junior Band aims to excel in state events. They will travel to Muncie on June 7 to perform for Jr O U A M memorial day recognition by local leaders and supporters.
The Press reports a large Jack O'Lantern seen south of Dublin by Nate Moore and Charley Lucas, two local men. The eerie light drifted north to Orange Hall and D L Leicher dwellings, then west and south before vanishing after about thirty minutes.
The Union Traction company has begun work on the grade this side of Anderson. Crews are making rapid progress. New Castle residents riding from Anderson yesterday saw the grade about a mile and a half long, considered an excellent start toward the Flower City. If pace continues, the grade should soon be within sight of New Castle.
J W Kiplinger and Miss May Monroe wed yesterday evening at the bride home on Walnut Street officiated by Rev O King. The couple will begin housekeeping at Walnut Street. Kiplinger, a clerk at the Hub clothing store, and Mrs Kiplinger are described as well known in the community.
Officials plan placing poles along the route from here to New Castle with work advancing toward completion within two weeks. The grade to Danreith is finished and the right of way cleared of trees and stumps to allow uninterrupted progress. More men and teams are at work as hopes rise for a July 4 car operation.

At about ten this morning County Superintendent W. F. Byrket was elected for a fourth term by thirteen township trustees. Five opponents including Marshal Joe Williams Guy Jones P H Wolford and Herschel Reynold were considered but Byrket won after several ballots in a clean spirited race. Trustees pledged not to disclose the ballot results.
Finest in America Mr Colon Shott and Mr Steinking of Cincinnati visited our city on Decoration Day to tour the new piano factory. They marveled at the plant praised the management Krell Denglar and Pfay and declared the facility the finest in America. Mr Shott is a leading Cincinnati attorney and Mr Steinking deals in pianos and musical instruments.
Rev. E. R. Black of the Christian Church preached on the Great Events in the Life of Jesus. He argued that the Ascension completes the sequence from birth to resurrection and marks a gala day in heaven at the close of creation.
A sermon recalls Christ’s first entry into heaven with praise from angels and a ruined world seeking redemption. It notes some redeemed by faith, others by faith and works, and emphasizes Christ’s perfect life and victorious ascension as the source of eternal reward.
A telegram from L. L. Dennius reports a flood that destroyed possessions in New Onette Indiana and Kansas City Missouri. He says Maime and Trixie escaped, and the Dennius family is scattered with the wife and daughter safe across the river among friends. Further word is awaited.
Special Officer Yost arrested Herbert Barkley this morning on a charge of assault and battery filed by Lizzie Shears the sixteen year old daughter of Flora Shears. The incident allegedly occurred on East Broad Street Saturday night and Barkley reportedly claimed there are others. The case is set to be heard this week before the mayor.
L 8. Dennius reports via telegraph that conditions worsen and hundreds drown as fires break out and firefighting facilities fail. Mr Deunius believes his son and family are staying with friends in Kansas City Missouri after losing their home, yet are safe. For pictures and frames contact Johnson and Hail undertakers.
Yesterday the Improved Order of Red Men held Memorial Day events despite rain. A morning service at the Presbyterian church featured Rev. I F Dungan and a sermon on Hiawatha and Christ. Hon A J Shelby of Lebanon addressed the afternoon gathering in the Red Men hall, followed by music and a procession to South Mound cemetery for ritual rites.
