Tokyo reports reveal nine demands aiming at China including Japanese military and civilian advisors and provincial autonomy for five northern provinces. Cooperation against communism would permit more Japanese troops in China and widen a rift with Soviet influenced Mongolia. China reportedly rejects the demands and vows armed resistance.
On the presidential special en route to Washington the leader spoke of destroying the issue of Communism as he prepared a rapid campaign against a weak Republican leadership. Jose Chavez 12 found in Sandia mountains 20 miles east. Neil Campbell 65 and George Carmagnini 19 killed in two snow related auto crashes.

A Philadelphia youth, John Jenkins of Paoli, is sent to New Castle to study the local water plant and office operations for six months to a year. The program is arranged by the American Water Works and Electric Company of New York under Superintendent J. L. Matthews.
