Youths Form Protestant Fellowship at Madison Avenue Church

The Madison Avenue Presbyterian and nearby Methodist churches formed a new Protestant Fellowship Youth Group open to junior and senior high students. A meeting at Mahoning Township Methodist Church featured mediation by A A Desser with discussion on the Johnson Bronze Co strike. Officers include Dorma Clark as president and James Rainey as vice president. meeting held at Castleton with about 81 workers on strike since midnight. Rally Day is Sunday at Mahoningtown Presbyterian, with office moved to 1411 State Street for UBKYS Agency services.

Hospital Board Names 3 Directors

At a board meeting of New Castle Hospital three new directors were elected and have assumed duties. Richard Bennett, attorney and last officer of Lawrence Savings and Trust Co., Thure M. Leive of Leive Construction Co., and Robert J Kurth of Mesta Machine Co. were named to the board. Sister Mary John, hospital administrator, announced the appointments.

Ministers Will Meet In New Castle Area Monday

A local minister association in New Castle area will convene Monday at 1 g.m. at First Presbyterian Church on N Jefferson St Falls. Rev Ted V Voorhees will lead the session as chaplain of the state correctional, with Rev Delbert Teller introducing the visiting speaker Dr Gece Stove to conduct the business meeting. Residents are urged to use safe equipment as aging infrastructure and long-standing church histories mark a region rich in religious heritage and community activity.

Pherson Reelected Chairman of ASC in Lawrence County

John L. Pherson of County RD 3 was reelected chairman of the Lawrence County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. Helen Jenkins announced the results. Dale E. Currie was named vice chairman and C. M. McCormick, regular member. Community committee members were chosen from Pulaski Two, Slippery Rock, New Castle, Shenango, Wayne, and other townships with deputies named for each district. County officers will assume duties Monday for one year.

Mahoning PTA Opens New Year Oct 9 Meeting

Mahoning PTA begins the new year with an 8 p.m. meeting in the school auditorium SH 2 on October 9. An executive board planning session is scheduled for October 3 at 1:90 p.m. The officers elected include Mrs. Frank DeMateo president and J Wylie Craig vice president.

Named Counsel of Penn Power

Willem W Caldwell of Harrisburg will become counsel for Pennsylvania Power Co on November 1. Charles S Bowden said Caldwell will replace Edward J Cooke Jr who resigned August 31 to join a New York law firm. Caldwell, a Harrisburg native and Dickinson College and Law School graduate, has been assistant district attorney in Dauphin County for several years. He, his wife Janet and three children will reside in New Castle.

Correctional Training Lectures Scheduled for Wednesday Start

A correctional training program for those in criminal justice begins Wednesday with Atty Chasey Milses as instructor. Classes meet at 7:30 p.m. weekly for 24 weeks. Sponsored by the Public Service Institute of the Department of Public Ins suction, the free program covers two fields the Criminal Justice Program and the Behavior and Treatment of the Delinquent.

Mike Levine to Speak at Temple Israel Men’s Club Meeting

KDKA radio newsman Mike Levine will address Temple Israel’s Men’s Club on December 10. Levine, a University of Pittsburgh graduate, class of 1949, previously worked at the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph and a McKeesport radio station before joining KDKA.

Funeral for Aunt Casacchia Attended by Kin

Nephews and nieces of Fanniz Catullo attended the funeral held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from Fioritto Funeral Service in Woodland, Cleveland. Mass was led by Rev Peter Catullo at Mt. Carmel Church. She was sister to Elizabeth Casacchia and the late Rev Julius OFM. Surviving brother Anthony Catulto lives in Cleveland. Lawrence County Reads Three School Plans for Review

Lawrence County School Board will meet to review three local school reorganization plans as mandated by the state. If a plan is chosen at Thursday's private meeting, it would be adopted at the October 18 regular session when State deputy superintendent Ralph Swan is to address the board. Only seven of eight board members will vote. Ellis Hillard is ex officio and cannot vote.

Unemployment in New Castle Area

4000 unemployed in the New Castle area representing 10.7 percent of the total workforce. Total workforce about 133,900. employment fell by 200 over the summer. Modest gains in metal and durable goods offset by declines in trade. Self employed and domestic workers noted. Officials expect a Christmas rush to increase staffing and reduce unemployment in November and December.

Michael Palisin Dies In Sharon

Michael Palisin as of 219 Stewart Fl died in Sharon yesterday after arriving as a spectator for the Sharon New Castle football game. He suffered a heart attack and died at Sharon General Hospital. Born April 30 1903 in Sharon he was a machinist for Pennsylvania Engineering Co and a member of BPOE No. 69.
