Train derails near Wampum disrupts Pittsburgh line
A westbound Pittsburgh and Lake Erie freight train derailed near the Newport Bridge north of Wampum, involving fifteen derailed cars and damage to one track. One track reopened early today. the other remains closed with full clearance not expected until late evening. No injuries reported. Several derailed cars scattered, with some rolling toward a bank and utility poles along the right of way torn down. A P&LE spokesman offered no firm cause or damage estimate. Temperature notes from New York weather service report 100 degrees in California and 25 degrees in Gallup, Mex.

Two area men killed in separate Mercer County accidents
Two Mercer County men died in separate incidents yesterday. Dale Jamison, 37, of Pulaski, died from a one car crash on Pa. 551 near Shenango Township, with a crushed chest and multiple injuries. Samuel E. Drake, 21, of Slippery Rock Rd 2, was killed in Shenango yards of the B&LE Railway by a moving train, from a crushed neck. another worker, Dennis L. Morgan, 23, was bruised but alive.
