Ellis Boyd, charged with involuntary manslaughter in the August 28 Harlansburg road accident that killed Gerald Hettenbaugh, was found not guilty but the jury imposed the costs on him. The verdict was read in Lawrence county court after late-night deliberations.

Washington Sept 28 The Baltimore and Ohio railroad asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to approve a 3 million dollar works loan from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to repair and rebuild locomotives and freight cars and build 820 all steel gondolas. The road offered its note as security. The Pittsburgh and West Virginia railroad also sought a loan of 403,419 dollars to pay interest on notes and equipment trust obligations.
New York police recover the body of Charles S Bonanno 37 a real estate operator from the East River. The Burlap Bag Mob strikes again with the victim bound by burlap sack over head and arms. Doctors say he was in the water four to five days after being murdered. Bonanno had earlier been arrested as a still operator and liquor possessor.
James A. Brice was elected Post Commander of Perry S. Gaston Post No. 343 American Legion during the annual election Tuesday night. New officers include Thomas Co. Edmunds as Senior Vice Commander Lester McClelland as Junior Vice Commander John D. Kennedy as Post Finance Officer Gomer Emery as Post Chaplain R Harold Blewitt as Post Historian W L Burton as Sergeant at Arms and Dr M P McCann as Trustee Norman P. Nelson was named Post Adjutant. The meeting drew a large crowd and was followed by lunch and a smoker.
