Rain in St. Louis postponed the second game of the little world series between the Cardinals and the Chicago Cubs. The game will be a double header tomorrow. The Cubs hold a 19 game winning streak and need one more win to take the National League title. The Cardinals must sweep the remaining four games and win a playoff to repeat as champions.
Three hundred thousand gas masks have crossed into northern Ethiopia from the Anglo Egyptian Sudan to arm Emperor Haile Selassie's forces against the Italian advance. Four days without rain have left Addis Ababa with dry ground and alert residents. An emperor's airplane buzzed over the city as people expressed confidence in victory and war readiness.
Washington, Pa. David Riggle, 45, faces murder charges in the death of his friend James C. Algeo, 59, as coroner William B. Baker sets an inquest for early next week. District Attorney Warren S. Burnial says no further public statements.

Albert Houston 64 of RF D No 5 is hospitalized in serious condition after a stone fell from the roof of a mine he was cleaning near Earl's store on the Highland Heights to Walma road. He was trapped two hours and rescued by neighbors after his son Gilbert alerted helpers.
ST. LOUIS September 26 Mrs Melville Mucklestone of Chicago was elected national president today of the American Legion Auxiliary. New vice presidents elected include Mrs Whit Y MacHugh Afton N Y for the eastern division and Mrs Joseph H Thompson of Beaver Falls Pa was elected American vice president of the Federation Internationale Des Allies Combattants.
Aviation skeptics to witness Bemus Johnston attempt a wingless craft at Monessen near Bellevernon. A belt of motor driven cellules acts as aerial lifting surfaces while the craft hopes to reach 500 miles per hour with the cells shuttered in flight. Robert Scott, former Roosevelt Field instructor, will co pilot in the test as part of an aerial circus.
Harrisburg report states County Construction Co of Pittsburgh won the bid for 3.26 miles of Route 340 in Butler County for 140 125.04 dollars. The project under the federal aid program calls for a 20 foot concrete pavement between Grove City and Slippery Rock to provide work for jobless. Work to start within days.
