A series of unexpected deaths haunts a family over years with lingering questions after the father's mysterious passing. Authorities probe potential links among the six deaths as relatives seek answers and closure.
A mother also died under unclear circumstances after a drowning at Bowles Lake. In the past two years three other deaths remain mysterious, with the last fatality listed in Denver, Colorado.
James Cooper Wheeler died suddenly in Denver after a six hour illness. Candace Wheeler drowned at Bowles Lake near Denver on June 23. Mrs Ann Wheeler Wilkins their mother died under mysterious circumstances two years ago. Two aunts and a cousin also died mysteriously in Omaha two years ago.
The Wheeler family in Hollis New York reels after the drowning of Candace Wheeler. Her father James Cooper Wheeler dies in Denver after six hours illness while seeking to contest Candace's will. He and attorney Emil Schwallock used assumed names to uncover alleged property and life insurance issues. The will favors Otto and Otto Myer, with $12 500 life insurance. The investigation continues despite his death and the Oct 3 probate set in court.
Revised and complete returns from 354 towns show gubernatorial results. Democrats Foss led with 63 018 votes, Pelletier 36 404. Republicans Walker 53 915, Benton 43 612.
Mrs. Elwilda Smith sues Standard Steel Car for 35000 damages claiming negligence led to her husband Joseph L. Smith being fatally scalded at a plant. The filing describes a crane accident, a damaged room, and a boiler steam release causing Smith’s death. Separately Antonio Simone sues Pasquale Mone for 3000 over alleged injuries. W. J. Kamerer sues E. E. Hileman for 350 on an auto agency dispute after selling three Overland cars and failing to recover 350 of an advance.
Unidentified man found dead after being mangled by a train on the Franklin and Clearfield railroad on Sept. 14. A razor and a coat inscription "'C Clickner, New York" are noted. A letter from Clickner reports he and a companion were robbed by four holdup men on a Lake Shore freight train.
Wiehard Trent and W. M. Thomas, aged 19 and 25, pled guilty before Mayor Tyler to breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony and receiving stolen goods. Police seized hats, razors, and other items from burglaries at Gatain Inn barber shop and the South Mercer street hat store. They were held on $500 bail to answer in court.
A Tuesday evening gathering at Norwood Avenue, hosted by Mr and Mrs R C Fralick, surprised Rev H J Whalen and his wife of First Baptist Church. The event featured humor about a kitchen shower as friends delivered culinary tools to the couple amid a cheerful, playful reception.
Sharon, Pa. Earl Armstrong, 19, who saved himself from drowning in the Shenango river five years ago, is notified he has inherited between 3000 and 4000 dollars from his mother's father Patrick O Connor of Indiana. He is now a forgeman in Alliance, Ohio, having left Sharon four weeks ago.
Yale students will save money and local banks will lose by the opening today at the Yale sub station of a branch of the postal savings bank. The petition was filed by students who local banks said could not patronize them unless they kept between 100 and 200 dollars on deposit and were charged five dollars for handling their accounts.

Punxsutawney Pennsylvania September 25 The ground hog club known as the famous weather works organization held its sixteenth annual ground hog hunt on the Henry Rudolph farm. Colonel William Fairman, famed for tales of the Democratic convention in Baltimore, led the hunt among many prominent guests from around the country.
Sept 25 New York Miss Pauline McKenzie daughter of a Boulder Colorado mine owner smoked 390 cigarettes in 24 hours and is under treatment in Bellevue Hospital psychopathic ward after being found delivering incoherent speech to a crowd near the Church of the Holy Name. She will be returned to Boulder in charge of a nurse.
Fire Chief Frank Connery arrived home from Denver Colorado where he attended the National convention of fire chiefs. He described the trip as very enjoyable though marred by several snow storms. While there he delivered an address on the triple combination auto firefighting machine.
In Trenton, Judge William Hughes defeats U S Senator James Smith Jr by more than two to one for the Democratic nomination. Hughes leads Smith 1,868 to 993 in the city with larger margins statewide. Briggs runs unopposed on the Republican ticket while Hudson county variants nominate Bull Moose candidates for congress and assembly. Smith wins Essex by about 700 and Hudson by 5,000 votes.
A habeas corpus hearing was held for Henry Zimmerman who faced a sixty day workhouse sentence imposed by Alderman Ranney for beating his wife. Edwin K. Logan represented Zimmerman. the case centered on Ranney’s remark about never sending anyone to the workhouse which Zimmerman interpreted as a guarantee.
Mrs Emmeline Pankhurst described J W Reid’s objection to women joining the bar as ridiculous and contemptible. She urged examining crime statistics to judge honesty, noting the average woman’s honesty compared with men.
The county commissioners received a bill proposing a national permanent exhibit of the county resources. It calls for jobs at $4,000 per year and seeks an appropriation of $25,000.
Panama reports 29 American marines killed at Leon Nicaragua after heavy fighting with rebels. Naval officials in Washington doubted the report though confirming a force of 300 to 400 marines in Leon and noting Lieut. Commander Long in charge. No Nicaragua reports were received today.
An anti vaccination meeting was held last night in the court house with Rev H S Boyd George T Weingartner Councilman Collins L K Hewitt and others speaking. They portrayed vaccination as dangerous citing cases of disease following inoculation and urged taking the risk of smallpox rather than vaccination.
Judge Porter will hold a 9 o clock meeting with attorneys to review 187 cases on the docket since January 1 1905. Many cases settled remain listed. The aim is to decide which cases go to trial and to clear elapsed entries. The list was published in The News a few days ago.
In a New York campaign interview President Taft promises tariff downward revision if re elected and hints at an extra session if Republicans control Congress. He warns the third term party plan could yield a dictatorship needing revolution and denounces Wilson on tariff. He supports domestic manufacturing and fair prices with anti trust enforcement.
Two more typhoid cases were reported today, bringing total for the day to four. New patients are Peter Brys of 2 Ellwood Street and Sara Horvet of 5 Weinberg Alley. Typhoid remains concentrated near South Mercer and Scioto streets, with seven patients in New Castle hospital and 11 more at home in the area.
At the Saratoga convention the Republican leaders lose control as delegates assert independence. no unified platform or slate emerges while women push for a suffrage plank. State Chairman Barnes signals possible free for all discussions as candidates for governor remain unpromoted.
