Teachers authorize strike in Neshannock talks
The Neshannock Township Education Association rejected the board’s latest contract proposal and gave its negotiating team strike authorization. Frank DeFelice said a strong turnout backed the decision and a majority of the district’s 85 teachers supported contacting state mediator Patrick Duff to schedule more talks. The board’s Bruce Waldman defended the offer as an excellent package and indicated surprise at the vote. Negotiations, now in their 20th session since January, have left both sides willing to meet again once Duff schedules a session. The district plans to start school August 31 without a contract, with the FMFT also negotiating with the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV.
