Duquesne Light Co. has resumed operations at the Beaver Valley Power Station in Shippingport Pennsylvania after a shutdown caused by a steam valve release. The 810 megawatt plant, which began operation in 1976, serves about 480000 residents in Allegheny and Beaver counties with electricity.

Four escape from Lawrence County Jail in Pennsylvania

Raccoon Triggers Major City Power Outage
A raccoon entered a Duquesne Light Co facility on Brunot Island and touched a 23,000-volt line, causing an hour-long blackout across Reserve and Scott townships and Pittsburgh areas including North Side Troy Hill and South Side. Serious crime in state rises in first half of year
Harrisburg reports a 13 percent rise in serious crime in Pennsylvania for the first six months of this year versus the same period in 1978. After two years of decline the rate climbed 12.5 percent over 1978 to approach 1976 levels, with a record 35,000 serious crimes in April and bank robberies leading the increase with 113 cases through June 30.
