Senate approves pay raises for county officers and PUC reforms
The Pennsylvania Senate passed bills raising salaries for county officials including commissioners sheriffs treasurers and clerks with increases from 600 to 6300 by county size. It sent to the governor a plan setting the State Harness Racing Commission chair at 22500 and approved Public Utility Commission reforms requiring annual fuel cost reviews tighter audit rules and a nine month deadline for rate decisions. The PUC would require full time service by its top four officials by July 1 1977 with staged pay jumps to 42500 for the chairman and 40000 for commissioners by January 1 1978. Current chairman Louis Carter earns 25000.

Guilty Plea Overseas in Child's Death Case
Leopold Krause, formerly of 127 Albarn Road, pleaded guilty to a serious case charge in the April death of 3 year old Douglas E. Wyant. Judge Howard W. Lyon accepted the plea after delays and suppression hearings. Two more hearings will fix degree of guilt and determine sentencing. Sue Ann Wyant, who pled guilty to lesser charges, has been sentenced to 36 years at a state prison.
