In Brooklyn, Discoverer Cook remains apologetic about Peary and asserts he will soon convince Peary of error. The visit drew a great welcome in New York City with staunch friends meeting him at the pier.
Dr Frederick A Cook returns to Brooklyn amid confidence he was first to reach the North Pole and vows to publish a full account. He accuses Peary of spreading misinformation via Murphy and says his forthcoming book, with witness testimony from Whitney and Pritchard, will settle the dispute.
Dr. Drederick A. Cook broadcasts from the Oscar II that critics base their disbelief on ignorance of new data. He says the private expedition, funded by John R. Bradley, produced a main report and will publish detailed observations for independent judgment. He vows to present black and white records and human witnesses to prove he has reached the pole.
Commander Peary returned to Sydney aboard the Roosevelt with his wife and two children as a flotilla of nearly a hundred craft greeted him. The harbor crowd cheered under a clear sky while flags from the United States Canada and local clubs fluttered in the breeze. The welcoming ceremony on the Roosevelt included Sydney mayors and imperial representatives as the ship sailed to the quay.
The American Sheet and Tin Plate company dismissed about 50 guards and deputies who policed the Shenango and Greer tin mills in New Castle. Floerkin and his force were removed. future mill protection will be internal with one sergeant per mill. Captain Davis will command mills in Sharon New Castle and Struthers, as street brawls in the strike district continue. Mayor Lusk has attempted to maintain order, but company officials say the city’s stability is not their concern.
Ed Collingwood of Arlington Avenue was acquitted of all blame after a hearing before Mayor Lusk following an assault by strikers on Mahoning Avenue Sunday night. David Jenkins, alleged assailant, was fined $15 amid conflicting stories and testimony from Officer Jones.
Governor John Albert Johnson of Minnesota died at St Marys hospital Rochester at 3 35 am following an operation for intestinal trouble. Five days of intense suffering and heroic treatment by his physicians to break up peritonitis compelled a toll on his heart. Mrs Johnson was at his bedside for hours before the end and she collapsed when he died.
Gulf coast storm wreaks havoc from Florida to Texas with New Orleans, Mobile, Biloxi, Pensacola hit hard. Reports say several towns wrecked, multiple deaths, extensive property loss, telegraph and wireless outages hampering confirmation.

A joint council session adopted a resolution calling for the state police to reestablish presence in New Castle to curb rioting and protect workers and property after a period of withdrawal. The measure, led by Councilman Louis Genkinger, reverses a prior resolution and cites increased disorder and disruption of work access since police withdrawal.
Berlin reports a mass outrage in Kiev lasting three days on the Jewish new year. Eighteen Jews killed, many injured, and extensive property destruction. Mob violence included lashings of naked women, two youths roasted alive, and scattered murders as residents fought back with limited force. Continued on Page Three.
John G Yeck a Shenango mill employee and strikebreaker was beaten by a crowd of 30 to 60 strikers on the West Washington street bridge while heading to a train. Jury found D J Williams and James Nell not guilty after trial before Judge Porter amid witness confusion over O Donnell.
Trial of Sergeant John E. Walsh of the state constabulary opens over a felonious assault charge from a clash with a 200 to 300 strong striker group near the Shenango tin mill. Prosecutor Hugh Houston alleges police exceeded authority while defense says force used was necessary to disperse an unlawful assembly.
In Chicago on September 21 Frank O Connor and his wife walked Mich igan boulevard when he struck her after she flirted with a passing man. They were arrested and arraigned before Judge Fake who discharged O Connor noting a woman's eyes and words should be for her husband alone.
Judge Porter appoints H Cc Drake D F Harlan and W F Dufford as appraisers in the Mills Fountain Inn bankruptcy case. They begin duties immediately. Receiver Hiram Miller will manage the hotel until the creditors meeting on October 1 to elect a trustee.
Thomas Saddler James Saddler and Mrs Harry Smith learn of their mother's death in Wales. Mrs Charlotte Saddler aged 68 had been in poor health for months. Daughter Mrs Smith left for Wales August 1 and remained at her mother's bedside. The Rev Albert Saddler of Stanford N Y and Albert Saddler at Dry Brook Gloucestershire Wales are among the other children. The husband 70 plus and feeble health also grieves. Mrs Saddler was well known to New Castle residents and visited here about fourteen years ago.
