U S paratroopers airlifted into a Viet Cong stronghold in the central highlands out-fought and defeated the guerrillas despite being outnumbered more than two to one. The clash produced 155 Viet Cong dead and light American casualties.

Edward Perko 24 of Ellwood City was killed on Route 351 after his motorcycle left control and struck a tree. Kenneth Bechtel 43 of Port Matilda died in a two vehicle crash in Centre County. Samuel Kennedy 30 of Collegeville was struck by a car on Ridge Pike. Fred Snake 22 of Shippensburg died when his car went over an embankment after hitting a pole near Route 174. David Grupp 19 of Wexford died in a two car collision west of Pittsburgh. Nora Buck 65 of Elizabethtown RD2 was killed in a hit and run on a rural Conewago road. Jacob Landis Jr. 48 of Elizabethtown RD2 was arrested as the auto operator. Glenn Hildebrand died on his 19th birthday near York in a rural road crash. Weather data shows Cotulla Texas reached 100 degrees and Ely Nevada hit 20.
