Western nations agreed to remove limits on West German steel and shipbuilding. The accord, reached by Acheson Bevin and Shuman, aims to integrate the German state into Atlantic Pact defenses and economy, without reviving armaments or heavy chemical industries.

U S Sen Alexander Wiley led in Wisconsin up to the halfway point with 121,820 votes to 33,920 for Edward J Finan as 1680 of 3179 precincts reported. Wiley's next foe appears to be Thomas E Fairchild who led the Democratic field for the nomination.
In Seoul region and southeast Korea columns move to defend the capital as a massive air offensive targets foe transport and supply lines. More than 60 B 29s, 50 fighters, light bombers and bomber aircraft support ongoing operations to aid Marine and Army advances toward Kimpo and Seoul. An airlift to Kimpo delivered over 215 tons of essential supplies on Tuesday. Far East Air Forces reports a near record 670 sorties across Korea.
In Hooksett New Hampshire police investigate the death of 25 year old Helen Maciolek secretary to Dr. Hermann N. Sander. An autopsy report is awaited and chemists examine a vial with white powder found near the body. An empty envelope is also under examination for possible contents. Merrimack county solicitor Ray mond K. Perkins comments on the envelope’s possible contents.
The Hawaiian and Alaskan statehood measures face a likely filibuster on the Senate floor as Interior Committee Chairman O Mahoney pledges to press for action before the vacation. Southern opposition hinges on potential shifts in racial legislation with four new northern senators. Backers hope passage upon Congress’s return in November.
U S Secretary of State Acheson will ask the fifth U N Assembly to earmark national troop units for emergency combat abroad to safeguard peace. He will be the first Big Four minister to speak, as Nasrullah Entezam becomes president after a tight vote.

Pearl Harbor Sept 20 The Navy probes the crash of a four engined C-54 transport that killed all 26 aboard. The wreck lies 1.5 miles underwater near Kwajalein with 7,200 feet of water depth hindering salvage efforts. Four bodies recovered. search continues.
R. J. Elliott of Elliott Brothers Steel has been named chairman of the Industrial Division for the 1950 51 Community Chest campaign. He says the division quota is 49600, about 40 percent of the overall 127 600 goal, and seeks broad cooperation from 65 local firms in New Castle area. Fenati Brick president H M Fenati co chairs the division.
Rochester, Pa September 20 Mrs Mary Stear 39 died in a fire that consumed her small frame home in Rochester township. Firemen, called by a passerby, theorized she fell asleep while smoking a cigarette. She lived alone.
Waves of U S Marines stormed across the Han river toward Seoul as South Korean Marines launched an amphibious assault at Samchok on Korea’s east coast. North Korean columns pressed under heavy Allied air strikes while American forces hardened a ten mile Naktong river advance and linked with troops toward Kumchon and Taejon.
The Defense Department announced that South Korean Marines landed and established a beachhead at Samchok on Korea s east coast opposite the Inchon landing. The move is believed to be supported by U S naval forces with little opposition and could threaten two coastal routes from Samchok.
Eva Sherry age 84 of 305 Highland Avenue died recently. Marcus Reynolds age 78 of Grove City also listed in death notices.
General MacArthur reports Marine forces at the gates of Seoul after crossing the Han River in a concentrated assault. He says converging columns press toward Yongdungpo on the south bank amid stiff resistance as South Korean Marines push from Samchok and advance southeast along the river.
