Lawrence County political figure Peter A. Vessella and partner Albert A. Jerome were sentenced to five and two years respectively plus $1,000 fines for defrauding coal producers and a cement company. Five names for Lawrence County Court of Common Pleas judge are set to be submitted to Gov. Dick Thornburgh after interviews completed last week. At least nine lawyers offered names to fill the vacancy after Judge John F Henderson retired July 2. Names include Republican William R. Ralph Jr. and Gordon C. Post Jr., Democrat Richard J. Audino, Francis X. Caiazza, William M. Panella, and Thomas A. Shumaker. The governor may select five for Senate confirmation, which requires a two-thirds vote.
