Courageous Sunk by German Submarine Off British Coast

London Sept 19 British admiralty casualty estimates show 679 British lives lost when the air craft carrier Courageous was sunk by a German submarine off the British coast late Sunday night. A total of 681 survivors, including 70 officers, have been rescued. The Courageous crew numbered about 1,260 with 1,170 sailors and 90 officers.

John M Bright Taken By Death

John M Bright aged 96 died at his home 1510 Hanns Street this morning after two years of ill health. Born in Ireland December 21, 1842 he came to New Castle in 1886 and worked at Shenango tin mill becoming its first hot metal foreman. He retired in April 1920 and married Anna Jane Williams on September 20, 1873. she died January 1938. He was a longtime member of Central Presbyterian Church in New Castle. Continued on page two.
