Police and federal agents conducted an exhaustive search in Syracuse hotels and rooming houses for Clinton Carnes, treasurer of the Baptist Home Mission Board from Atlanta, who vanished after a street recognition by naval engineer Charles Spencer. Carnes fled a department store crowd after a downtown chase and was last seen near the First Baptist church taking notes on worship services. Spencer aided authorities in the search.
Dominick Carelli aged 60 was found shot on his secluded Portersville farm after two weeks of disappearance. Coroner W. Pohl suspects accidental death as a shotgun lay near the body. Carelli lived alone and was identified by authorities.
Franklin woman Loveda Boyle 18, a Cranberry divorcee, is held after shooting motorist Robert McCormick on a country road in self defense. McCormick died. Boyle, hitchhiking from Okmulgee, Okla., was picked up and involved in the incident. Delegates to the Cities of the Third Class convention chose Reading as the 1929 convention city, Bradford losing 13 to. Reading nomination for officers set for Thursday morning.
Ten year old Billy Ranieri, kidnapped in a Sicilian extortion plot, was found wandering on a country road and returned unharmed to his parents after thirteen days of captivity and death threats. George Mats stationed at a railroad depot spotted him and alerted authorities.
New Castle visitors touring New York City report groups of youths near The Battery and along the East Side targeting sightseeing buses. Gangs shout for nickels and yell Rubbernecks as cars halt for observations. The behavior is described as a coordinated pattern by local tourists for a summer vacation memory.

Grace Lowers of DuBois Pa has started as girls work secretary for the Young Women's Christian Association. She previously served with the YWCA in Lexington Kentucky and is a Wooster College graduate who attended the YWCA Training School. Miss Lowers notes the resignation of juvenile Hamilton earlier in the summer. Hamilton married Robert Garr of Betavia New York this fall.
Westminster College inaugurates a Gothic style main building replacing Old Main destroyed by fire on January 24 1927. The structure includes 20 classrooms a dormitory for men a 700 seat chapel offices and a public speaking hall. The 150 foot long stone building adds enlarged facilities and supports 109 men and instructors.
Herbert Hoover campaigned in New Jersey then planned a drive into the solid South next month. He urged election of a Republican Congress, defended the party policies, and commended President Coolidge for economy and leadership. The trip included a friendly reception and a labor speech, with emphasis on avoiding personalities in the campaign.
