Physician Van Wert Killed by Train at Covert's Crossing
Dr. Floyd L. Van Wert of 29 North Mercer Street was fatally struck by a fast Pittsburg and Lake Erie passenger train at Covert's Crossing while en route to Burton Powder plant near Emporium to serve as company physician. He was about 33, a Penn graduate physician, active in local medical societies and a former school physician. Survived by wife Flossie and parents George and Mrs Van Wert. Funeral plans pending.

Eleven jurors had been seated when court adjourned. Judge Emery ordered 12 talesmen summoned. the extra juror was secured upon reconvening. Prosecution led by Clyde V Riley with Thos W Dickey. defense by Charles E Medard and L Mc Cracken. The incident centers on the evening of June 27 at Louigi De Lili’s Center street home where Serafino De Angelis was allegedly killed after a dispute over a remark about Mrs De Lili. Witnesses say Vito carried a knife as Serafina was forced from the porch. DeLili returned to report the body with a deep knife wound through the sternum into the heart.
