The first major slowdown of Suez Canal shipping was reported as northbound convoys arrived late and only five ships assembled for today's southbound run. Dispatches from Port Said noted a two-ship convoy had taken 16 hours through the waterway, with normal times 13 to 15 hours.
After morning rain a sunny day brought hundreds of vehicles to district highways. New Castle remains a main route for out of state tourists with diverse license plates. Local postman carts have not appeared yet and right hand drive mail trucks are common. Debates rise on moving the state car inspection sticker to the windshield center while many objects dangle from it.

India's roving ambassador V K Krishna Menon arrived in Cairo reportedly to urge President Nasser to take the Suez Canal dispute to the United Nations. Diplomatic sources say Menon carried an urgent Nehru appeal regarding the Suez crisis.
A United Press survey shows at least 14 people killed in state road crashes from Friday evening to Sunday night. A pilot died when his aircraft exploded in flight and a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train.

In western Pennsylvania over the weekend a car plunged 200 feet into a creek in Hampton township killing two soldiers, PFC Ronald P Sleighter 19 East Freedom and Pvt Lawrence P Villarroel 20 New York City, who were with an anti aircraft battery near Pittsburgh. Another death followed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike when a car carrying John S Grygo 29 Baltimore and Theodore Monteith Fredericksburg Va. overturned in Cranberry township four miles west of Perrysville. Monteith was seriously injured and hospitalized at Providence Hospital Beaver Falls.
Chinese Premier Chou En-lai outlined a new five year plan to begin in 1958 that would double industrial production and triple basic production with heavy industry at its core. He said Soviet aid would be crucial and spoke at the eighth Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in Peiping.
Five survivors from the liberty ship Pelagia said 33 men remain aboard the sunken vessel after it broke in two and sank off Norway. They reported their lifeboat was the only craft to reach safety as the ship carried iron ore and faced mountainous seas. one body, Jean Lopez, was found after exposure in icy waters.
A Sunday night head on crash on state road 60 west of Lake Wales killed eight people. The two white victims were Leonard Johnson 38 and Frank Ganns 25. Six Negro victims were from Pierce Polk County including Lonnie 56 Altha 42 Earline 17 B J 4 Ruby Lee Stevenson 6 and an unidentified woman. An unidentified Negro boy survived in critical condition.
Indiana Governor George N. Craig dedicated the $280 million toll road with a horn honking motorcade from the Ohio line to South Bend. Ohio Governor Frank J. Lausche attended the dedication as toll free passage was offered on the completed section east of Gary. Regular tolls up to $1.95 will take effect Tuesday as the road completes a Chicago to New York turnpike system.
Bulletin from New Delhi reports President Eisenhower sent a message to Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru regarding the Suez Canal dispute. Contents of the message were not disclosed.
Adlai Stevenson faced a Republican challenge as Leonard Hall urged him to state whether he agrees with Truman that Alger Hiss was not a Communist spy. Nixon and Mundt had pressed Stevenson to declare his position amid ongoing questions at a news conference. Stevenson planned to address Hiss at a Washington press event after returning from a trip.
Flood waters from a dawn cloudburst inundated Edenburg pushing over the hill onto PA 551 and flooding main street. Homes suffered cellar damage and several thousand dollars in losses were reported on a highway construction site run by Carmen Ambrosia. Water ruined washers driers hot water equipment and a new coal cellar in Edenburg homes. Damaged drainage work delays progress and the contractor estimates four to five thousand dollars in hillside work must be redone.

The trip will push his total mileage beyond 20000 miles since the nomination. He will tour again in October and face questions on Alger Hiss and Truman’s recent comments.
Three people were killed and at least 40 injured in weekend traffic accidents in central Pennsylvania. Lester S. Stutts nine of Coburn Centre County died after being struck while riding on a bicycle handlebars near his home. Clarence J. Miller sixty of Meyersdale MeeVeytown was killed instantly when struck on Route 103 west of Lewistown. George E. Knapp Jr eighteen of Silver Springs Maryland died Saturday in a collision on the Pennsylvania Turnpike fifteen miles west of Carlisle.
A blaze at the Altoona Salvation Army Home caused about 9000 in damage. Firefighter Raymond Conlon and Veryle Forsht were overcome by smoke during the Sunday blaze started in 28 bales of stored paper. several others were affected but not hospitalized.
Secretary of State John Foster Dulles flies to London to push a plan for Suez crisis resolution and a users' association to run canal ships with private pilots. He aims to win 15 smaller nations' backing while restraining Britain and France from military moves.
