Leonard Koenecke outfielder for the Brooklyn Dodgers was killed in a Detroit air plane crash near Toronto after a life and death struggle with pilot W J Mulqueeny over Lake Ontario. Irving Davis, a Detroit parachute jumper, was present as the other occupant survived.
City of New Castle mourns the loss of 79 year old City Police Officer Joseph E. Greer and his 77 year old wife Anna who died within hours of each other at their 914 Adams Street home. Officer Greer died at 9:30 p.m. from a heart condition and Mrs. Greer followed at 10:35 a.m. after fifty seven years of marriage.
In an interview with Le Matin, Benito Mussolini warned that Italy could mobilize ten million warriors in a day if sanctions are imposed, saying sanctions mean war and Europe would be drained of blood. He asserted Italy would not initiate hostility but warned of potential conflict if Europe acts against it.
L. R. Homer, 35, of R F D No 1 Claysville Pa, was brought to Jameson Memorial hospital at 5 10 Monday afternoon after losing control of his car and leaving the road on the New Wilmington road six miles north of the city. He suffered a fractured collar bone and forehead lacerations. He was alone and could not explain the crash.
Little John Carlton Savolaine aged three died at New Castle hospital from internal injuries after being struck by an oil truck on East Washington Street. Son of John and Ella Savolaine, he ran from behind a parked car and was struck by Albert M. Moser of Donora. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 PM from 708 Oak Street with Dr. Ferguson and Rev. Rautanen officiating.
Former president Herbert Hoover spoke at a Constitution Day event in San Diego urging protection of individual rights against encroaching government. He centered his remarks on the Bill of Rights and warned that new philosophies threaten America’s constitutional principles.
Democratic constable candidate Thomas Conlin clashed with a Republican worker at the Homestead polls. Conlin was arrested and jailed, amid a long running rivalry with Republican police captain John Jenkins. Attorneys sought release via habeas corpus before Judge McNaugher as state police guarded the borough.

Rev Theodore M Anderson has been called to Palisade Avenue U P Church Union City New Jersey. He has served as supply pastor since early summer and is to be formally installed by the Presbytery of Hudson. Born in India to missionary parents, he is a Westminster College graduate with 1934 New York theological training. This will be his first pastorate.
