PennDOT and the Pennsylvania Turnpike representatives met to discuss an independent feasibility study of the proposed Beaver Valley Expressway Pa 60. Harvey Haack supplied a proposed scope of work for review and comment before the study proceeds and a final report to Beaver Valley Expressway Association and to the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission.

Autoworkers reach three year pact with GM before strike

UPI reports the United Auto Workers and General Motors sealed a three year agreement in Detroit before the midnight strike deadline. The tentative pact covers about 300000 U.S. auto workers at Ford and Chrysler as well as 450000 at GM and includes pension upgrades plus the usual 3 percent annual wage hikes and a rise in overall pay by about 2.50 per hour over three years. Union and company leaders credit resolve to avoid a national walkout and protect the economy.

Two Local Men Receive SALT II White House Invite

Two Lawrence County men, Robert Morris of Johnson Bronze Co and Arsen Armond of the Pennsylvania Lottery, were invited to a White House SALT II briefing at 2 PM in the East Room. Armond cannot attend due to a workmen's compensation hearing. About 300 Pennsylvanians and Kansans were invited. Carter and Zbigniew Brzezinski will lead the briefing, followed by a reception in the state dining room.
