Harvey E. McGoun a long time New Castle shoe merchant announces as a Republican candidate for county treasurer in the upcoming spring primaries. Well known in county districts he expects broad support while remaining a life long Republican who has paused in politics for years. Friends have pushed his bid and leaders may be surprised by the move.
Urgent pleas by local businessmen saved Wilfred Frampton, B and O station agent, from sentencing after he robbed the till. Frampton placed under $500 bond until December term. he will write monthly letters to Judge Porter updating his progress. Frampton's accomplice was sent to Morganza.

After fourteen years as pastor at Slippery Rock United Presbyterian church Rev J O McConnell resigns effective November 1. He and his family will move to Pittsburgh where he will rest and consider future work. No replacement steps have been taken yet.
The fire committee recommended adding one more fireman to each of the Fifth and Seventh ward engine houses to bolster industrial district coverage. Charles Lynn, formerly of the Sixth ward, now serves at the Central house, replacing the late Frank Buxton. The committee also urged alarm gongs at the homes of assistant chiefs.
Captain J F Robinson was sent from New Castle to end a disturbance between Lieutenant H F Egle and Private Charles Miller. A fight reportedly involved a revolver. Egle, whose appointment came via Boss Boies Penrose, has a poor conduct record including a reprimand at New Florence.
William Clark, arrested for burning Joe DeMarie's barn, appeared before Alderman Ranely and was held for court. Mrs DeMarie, also charged with arson, will have a hearing later.
Frank Jarapola, linked with the Black Hand, was found guilty on two robbery counts in Judge Hall's court. Prosecutors Nicola Pondenelli and Nicola Finca alleged he obtained $30 from one victim and $45 from another.
Three new diphtheria cases were reported to Health Director Homer. The victims include an 65 year old Rozewisk family member, an eight year old Shoaff child from Croton avenue, and a five year old Westman child from North Cedar street in the Seventh ward.
The notice lists Peter Carrigan aged 48 on Atlantic Avenue and Frank McGonald aged 63 from the Seventh Ward in a brief death record.
Joseph Aultman told police he was held up by two men near the New Castle Junction. He says they relieved him of a gold watch and five dollars in cash.
Joe Trax of Custer cannon fame arrives back from the national G A R encampment at Saratoga Springs. He fired the Custer cannon 53 times during the big parade and his uniform color was barely visible beneath the medals.
The personal property of Charles B. Paisley including horses and vehicles was sold this morning by Trustee in Bankruptcy John S. Martin to Norman Rogers, former proprietor of the Highland stables. Rogers will continue the business.
Alieniot 13 is described as deceived by an attorney in an asylum matter, with the incident prompting questions over legal handling and the subsequent actions by involved parties.
Walter Wellman reports from Tromsö Norway that the airship America battled a northeast gale near Foul Isle coast then fought an Arctic snowstorm to avoid destruction. The crew kept the craft intact aside from bent tubes and broken wires amid compass failure and near mountainous collision.

Plant operated under court authority by Receiver J J Dean.
Mrs. McCurdy of Hillsville rushes to Youngstown hoping a man in the city hospital is her husband John McCurdy. The man proves a stranger. McCurdy vanished from Hillsville weeks ago and remains unfound despite a thorough search.
Valentine Miller and Dan Dalton formed a boarding business that proved unprofitable. They split and argued over leftovers, leading to Dalton's arrest for disorderly conduct. Alderman Mayne kept the business going by dividing costs equally.
St. Marys parish schools reopen Monday morning for the first time since summer vacation. A new addition will be ready for occupancy, providing a useful improvement to the crowded facility.
Dr John Christianson, insanity expert from Madison, testifies in the Campbell murder trial and contradicts himself under cross examination. He initially says premature gray hair and poor circulation may signal insanity, then wavers on dates of examination and suggests everyone is a candidate for an asylum. He ultimately asserts Campbell suffered paranoia at the time of the Harris killing.
