Eliza Kinder Dies in Youngstown Youth

Mrs Eliza Kinder of Youngstown died in North Side Hospital Youngstown on Tuesday. She was a member of the Apostolic church Girard Ohio. Dayton Leads Rural Chest Drive in New Castle Area

Dayton heads the rural division of the Chest campaign as 20 Girl Scout units with 385 girls and 25 boys and girls attend camps this summer through the Community Chest and 4 H. services for New Castle area residents. Co-chairs Dayton Howe and Butler recruit volunteers for the campaign starting October 10 with a $127,600 goal for 1959.

Daylight kidnapping alarm grips Paterson over baby Nancy Goodell

In broad daylight two women described as thin gray and “piano leg” figures were seen bending over an infant carriage carrying 8 month old Nancy Goodell. Fred Goodell Jr left the baby unattended outside an apartment while fetching an ironing board. Police alerted the east and asked for two watches.

New Red Planes Destroyed In Early Combat

The afternoon battle saw tar bombers shoot down three enemy planes and damage one while another flight neutralized hidden aircraft but failed to ignite. The FUth Air Force reported success against tanks with four destroyed, ten damaged, two possibly damaged and two possibly destroyed. Fly 186 Sartler Fifth Air force logged 180 sorties, destroying twelve enemy trucks and eight more damaged. In the northeast sector, eight fighters bombed two rail tunnels used by North Korea troops, flames visible at both ends. Night fighters attacked a 30‑vehicle convoy with no reported damage.

Speed Up Action On More Billions For U S Defense

Congress moves to speed billions for defense with eleven and a half billion dollars in domestic defense and four billion for arms to allied anti-Communist nations. The House backed major items, the Senate expected to follow, boosting the 1951 budget to about six billion and funding 5333 additional Air Force planes and increased ship production.

Motor units of 229th start trip to Camp Atterbury

The 229th Army units begin a journey to Camp Atterbury marching from Pace One. The convoy will park overnight at the Allen County fair grounds in Lima, Ohio, with departures planned to Atterbury on Thursday. Some units take a southern route via Ohio south of Pittsburgh.
