Special Correspondent reports Rabaul New Britain Sept 13 as Australian troops move into the port area reclaiming the city once a key staging point for Jap forces. Allied air and naval bases were blasted by American and allied bombers under General Douglas MacArthur, leaving Rabaul largely wiped off the map.
AYER Mass September 13 Four soldiers burned to death and 12 to 16 others seriously injured when a 29 passenger bus overturned and exploded today. All the dead and injured were veterans just returned from overseas. They had just landed at Aver railroad depot by troop train from Camp Kilmer New Jersey en route to Fort Devens reception center for discharge or furloughs. Names of victims and injured not immediately available.

The Jameson Memorial Hospital formally opened the nurses home on Thursday night after remodeling and furnishing by the hospital board and the Jameson hospital. The building committee led by Harold Gordon preserved the Victorian character while adding subtle modern touches. The home, already housing 34 student nurses, was shown as a complete facility with original woodwork, papers, and drapes maintained.
