New Castle council extended the New Castle and New Wilmington street railway franchise six months beyond September 23. Company president R. M. Russell cited financial reverses and delayed construction but presented a new survey showing a line from New Castle to Meadville could cost about 1,000,000 dollars and be profitable. Council approved the six month extension in a joint session.
Local pastors reassigned after Erie conference sessions. First Church gets J. H. Clemens from Grace Oil City. Epworth gains H. C. Weaver from Corry. Grace receives J. K. Whippo from Sibley. Croton Avenue welcomes C. C. Merrill from West Pittsburg. Mahoningtown R. N. Merrill kept. Wesley and Simpson retain Ferrell. Dr. T. W. Douglass remains district superintendent.
James McKee of Shanango town ship was arrested by Constable Jacob Dindinger at Wampum on a charge of felonious assault with intent to kill Joseph Veon of Newport. Veon is in critical condition with possible bowel injuries and had been shot during a peach orchard incident.
Federal Judge Kenesaw M. Landis orders arrest warrants for ten leaders of the National Packing Co. indicted on anti trust violations. Bail set at about 10 000 each as the packers face possible jail terms in a major trust busting case. Additional executives in the packing industry may be drawn into the inquiry as the grand jury continues its work.
Rev S C Gamble will address a prayer meeting of the 37th district at 8 o clock at the Y M C A. The gathering targets business people and residents with special music and a welcoming tone.
The Sunday prayer meeting of district No. 17 will be held on Tuesday evening at the home of Joseph Hudson on State street and on Thursday at the home of Mrs. Frank Brooks on State street.
Schenker Vanes, out of work in the United States, learned his wife was living with another man. He attempted suicide twice near Lake Er ie yards, then again in a jail cell. He denied wanting rescue and was ordered to ten days on the hill after a mayoral hearing.

Ignatz Sneekis pleaded guilty to assault and battery and Tony Sneekis was found guilty of assault in a morning court session. Chief of Police Joseph Gilmore and Constable Shaffer testified that the pair attacked them on Cedar street. Alderman Coates described defending himself and subduing Tony. The defendants were placed on a car and taken to the lockup.
A large crowd attended last night’s band concert on the Public Square. Merchants plan to keep the square busy. a lighting improvement is sought, with potential extra lighting if the traction terminal is placed there.
MU STREET officials discuss widening South Mill street and a Diamond terminal plan as Norman Crawford asks for a special committee with the Mahoning & Shenango Valley Co. to review improvements. William Chanshaw a longtime offender faced a mayor’s hearing after being accused by William Penson of luring him to a Grove street house and stealing $60 and a watch. The watch turned up in Penson’s coat pocket. a girl said Chanshaw planned the scheme and had already taken $19. Penson, claiming intoxication, paid a $5 fine.

The squad includes Pie Decker, Matt Waters, Pete Porter, Doc Wilson, Hartwell, Spitter Bair, McCarty of Mansfield, and others to play several Virginia Valley league teams in Charlestown Thursday through Saturday and the following week.
Ellwood City tennis star G. H. Hartman won the singles final at the Country Club last week defeating E. C. Duff in four sets to claim the tournament cup. Treadwell and Love vs Archer and Ketler of Grove City produced a semifinal. a weather permitting final would pit Grove City players Hodgkinson and Uber against the local team for the championship.
Charles Lash of Ellwood City is lying at Shenango Valley hospital with very serious injuries suffered in an accident at Standard Car Works around midnight Monday. Condition is critical though fatal outcome not yet known.
