Lawrence county will lift its last major traffic detour on Route 422 east of New Castle and Butler this Wednesday at noon September 14. District 10 engineer L. J. Curran said traffic will return to two lanes on newly built pavement from Butler through Mt. Chestnut, ending two months of detoured travel via Route 88 and related roads.

Philip Murray and CIO Steelworkers face a strategy meeting in Pittsburgh as they prepare to back President Truman's call to extend the truce until at least September 25. They plan to press for concrete settlement talks before the extension is agreed.
President Philip Murray of United Steelworkers convened a 36 member executive board in Pittsburgh to review a proposed 10 cents per hour social insurance and pension package. Murray will seek the board's decision before the 170 member wage policy committee meets at 2 p.m. for approval.
President Truman urged both sides to study a fact finding board report released Saturday. U S Steel and major rivals including Inland Bethlehem Republic Steel and Jones and Laughlin agreed or signaled acceptance, with about 50 producers expected to follow.
