Phillips given life without parole for friend's murder
In Lawrence County, Corey Brandon Phillips, 28, was sentenced to life in prison without parole after a June jury found him guilty of first degree murder in the October 2, 2014 stabbing death of Jamiah Ward, a New Castle resident. The pair had been looting cars when a fight broke out on a hillside known as The Cut near the high school and police station. Ward sustained multiple stab wounds and other injuries.
