Communist assault ends cease-fire near Da Nang

Dirksen remembered as a nation builder at state funeral
Johnson and Vice President Agnew among 53 honorary pallbearers at Everett Dirksen’s funeral. Senate leaders, 13 House members from Illinois, four governors and other dignitaries attended. Dirksen, 73, died after lung cancer surgery and heart attack. His body lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda for 24 hours. Nixon praised the longtime Illinois Republican in a 24 minute rotunda tribute.

Theron Shaffer 63 of 2320 Cherry Hill Rd Ellwood City died at St. Francis Hospital after a two car collision on Pa. 65 in Shenango Township. He turned from a private lot into the path of 23 year old Charles Turok Edgewood Ave Edgewood. Turok treated and released from Jameson Memorial Hospital. Mayors in third class cities gain civil disorder powers
The Pennsylvania House approved a unanimous bill granting mayors of third class cities emergency powers to handle civil disturbances.
