New Castle’s entry the Tin City Rocket pursues the coast to coast derby amid protest claims by Roy and James Bradford. Telegram alleges special light-bodied planes by Waco and Laird with same motor as the Ryan, tilted propellers boosting speed. Takeoff in Indianapolis delayed but Pike Merritt expects a finish of at least seven. Plane left Oklahoma City this morning bound for coast, performing well on the trip as Bradford thanks locals.workmen build new runways at the airport on the Youngstown road.
President Coolidge will speak from the Superior Central high school steps this evening before boarding a train to Washington. He plans to be back at the White House by Wednesday morning, ending three months of fishing along the Brule river. A large crowd is expected for his final Superior appearance.
The Lawrence County Garden Club announces its annual show opens Wednesday in the Carnegie Auditorium. The event is expected to be the grandest yet with asters, gladioli, and garden blossoms on display and posters crafted by local art students. Esther Wallace of the senior high designed the program sketch. Awards list includes multiple first, second, and third places across Ben Franklin, Mahoning, and other junior high schools, plus top prizes in the pen and ink schedule category.
William Thomas of Tyrone who has led the YMCA at Pitcairn for five years will take over duties as secretary of the boys division at New Castle YMCA this week. He succeeds John Co Leonard, has a decade of Y.M.M. A. work, and is a graduate of the Chicago YMCA school.
Three occupants of a car were severely injured when their vehicle, traveling toward New Wilmington at high speed, was struck by an unknown hit and run car. The accident occurred about two miles north of the city. Mrs. Jennie Black, Mrs. Mary Doran, and Mr. Black were hospitalized in Shenango Valley Hospital. Mr. H J Doran escaped injury. Mr. Black was treated and went to The Castleton.
The Hoover luncheon in the Scottish Rite cathedral Tuesday at 1 PM attracts 750 expected attendees, far above the original 350-seat plan. Tickets remain on sale via Mrs. Breneman or Mrs. Hart with payments due Tuesday morning, launching a key fall campaign with state speakers Mrs. Sarah M. Boffel and Mrs. Lilian Trezise, and an opening program led by Mrs. J. L. Stratton.
Secretary of State Frank B Kellogg arrived in New York aboard the Leviathan with the Paris peace pact. He traveled with Mrs Kellogg and proceeded to the Pennsylvania Station for a Washington trip. No official reception occurred and Kellogg stressed his private citizen status despite the treaty signing.
B I French of the National Market and pilot Herbert Sherman of Kegerise Air Transport flew from Bernard field Youngstown to New Castle. They bought ham at Youngstown, then returned to New Castle landing at Kezarise field on the New Wilmington road. The round trip, with city lighting, took under an hour.
Ruth May Sipe eighteen months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs John A Sipe of near Neshannock Falls, died suddenly Saturday evening after supper. Doctors were out of town. onset of acute indigestion is suspected from overeating. Survived by nine siblings, funeral at 2 p m with burial in Fair Oaks cemetery.
Clyde A. Scott, 40, a railroad clerk at Laughlin Station, Wellstone, Pennsylvania, drowned in the Ohio River at East Liverpool Ohio after tossing an anchor to a boatman who asked for a tow. His wife and two children witnessed the accident.
Governor Al Smith’s western tour will be a leisurely, nine state journey with eleven coaches on a special train. He will meet party leaders in each state, delivering six major speeches in Omaha, Sioux City, Denver, Helena, Minneapolis, and Milwaukee, spending the night in each city and arriving early to depart the next morning.

Delegates from across Pennsylvania converge on the city for the fifteenth annual session of Fraternal Patriotic Americans of Pennsylvania Inc. The opening day includes registration at convention headquarters with state officials Bauman Miller Heizenroeder Crick Brinser present. The event continues through Wednesday.
Residents along the lake shore between Lorain and eastern Cleveland on East 153rd Street were startled by three abrupt tremors Sunday afternoon. Windows rattled and floors rolled as locals gathered outside. Engineer E. L. Gove noted rumpling in the WHEE building’s offices. No damage reported. some speculated the shocks resulted from Camp Perry aerial tests or salt mine activity. The last notable quake in the area occurred in February 1825.
