Collins gains a September 19 deadline extension on County Line Street and must install red lights at night obstructions. John W. Sixty Danger Run Slow signs arrive and will be placed on Washington Mill Cedar streets and Highland avenue.
Parents of Evan Brosser aged 13 report his disappearance after he left for a picture show Tuesday evening. Police are investigating with no clue found among friends. Evan wore a blue cap and blue shorts. Tony Cassella, employed at the chemical works on High street, also missing since Sunday and sought by police.
Sheriff Carl F. Johnston and Deputy Frank Johnston transported George Hess to the penitentiary for robbery with a sentence of two to ten years. Norman Holley and Thomas Evans were sent to the workhouse for seven months for escaping.
In Chicago and statewide precincts Roger C. Sullivan won the Democratic nomination for U.S. senator by about 70 000 votes over Lawrence B. Stringer as light turnout marked the primaries. Republican Lawrence Y. Sherman and others won renomination. Cannon and several incumbents also held seats.
British government announced the Oceanic, a White Star liner converted into a cruiser, was wrecked on the north coast of Scotland and a total loss. Officers and crew were saved. the ship had begun service in 1899 and was taken over for war purposes on August 10, two days after arriving from New York.
Auditor General Powell issued warrants on the state treasury for payments due New Castle and several Lawrence County boroughs under the foreign fire insurance tax acts. New Castle gains 970.18 dollars this year, with 97,018 dollars in statewide premiums. Boroughs receive varied amounts: Ellwood City 118.07, Enon Valley 3.27, Hazel Dell 2.44, Wampum 16.88, New Wilson 25.22, South New Castle 0.41, Volant 2.88.
