The dispatch reports Dr. Cook interpreting Peary’s Arctic dash as proof of his claims while detailing Peary’s route from Cape Columbia to the pole and back. It notes open leads and fast progress, with days deducted for ice openings and days counted for travel.
Dr Frederick A Cook seeks Knud Rasmussen to translate for Esquimaux Etukishuk and Ahwelab who traveled with him to the pole. Captain Sverdrup will escort them to New York from Greenland to corroborate Cook's assertion, with Cook covering expenses.
Cable reports from London Paris Berlin and Copenhagen show Europe split over Cook and Peary. Denmark and Germany back Cook while France stays neutral and demands proof. The Lawrence county courthouse clock will stop today for a two week overhaul. Theodore Rohrer leads the project. The eight day clock features a 10 foot pendulum and 100 pound bob with total weights about 1,400 pounds.

Elmira New York, Sept. 9. Prof Ross Gilmore Marvin of Cornell, Peary's assistant and chief scientist, died after aiding the polar dash. He led the supporting party to the 86th parallel, compared with Nansen 86 50, Abruzzi 86 34, and Peary 87 6. Marvin, in his twenties, drowned 45 miles north of Cape Columbia on April 10 while returning with food for Peary.
The New Castle Odd Fellows hold a melon feed this evening in their hall on Neshannock avenue. Several wagonloads of melons of all kinds have been secured and a grand good time is anticipated.
Rev. Brooks reports President Pargny of American Sheet and Tin Plate refuses to meet a workers committee. He asserts mills will operate on open shop with jobs for capable men, while defense against Sherman Anti-Trust action is prepared by the company’s legal department.
The body of William W. Doud of Sharon Pennsylvania who was killed here while supervising mill construction will be sent to his home for burial. A heavy lumber piece fell crushing his skull. Doud was a prominent Mason in Pennsylvania.
Miss Helen R. Westlake of Highland avenue and Miss Nancy Cunningham of County Line street depart this evening for a several weeks journey. They will visit Buffalo Niagara Falls Toronto Montreal travel down Lake Champlain and the Hudson River to New York where they will spend a week before returning home.
The sixth in the Married People series will be held at Cascade park pavilion next Tuesday evening September 14. Details for the seventh dance are to be decided by attendees at the party next week.
The Saturday joint meeting of Amalgamated lodges in Fidelis hall may vote on whether tin mill workers should continue the strike. Some want a secret ballot while others urge returning to work with minimal stigma and fear of losing jobs. Out of town leaders may urge continued action, while many strikers seek to preserve principles over livelihood.
Miss Rachel Kildoo, lifelong Lawrence County resident and Hermon Presbyterian member for 60 years, died Wednesday at home of her brother Washington Kildoo on Harrison Street. She was 80 with 5 months and 21 days. Survived by brothers Hiram and Washington. Funeral at her residence Thursday 7:30 p.m. conducted by Rev J Elmer Campbell, with services at Hermon Presbyterian Church Friday 3 p.m. Interment Hermon Cemetery.
Early Wednesday evening two separate fire alarms drew crews from multiple departments. At 7:15 p.m. box 75 alerted to a small blaze at a Liberty and Diamond street frame building where a paint can burned, with minimal loss after quick extinguishment. About 7:45 p.m. box 44 sent units to the Marquis limestone yard on South Mill street where an old limestone car was being burned, causing fears of a larger fire.
Ihe Simon a shoe merchant of Long Avenue has made an assignment for the benefit of his creditors to Joseph Fisher. He states his failure is due to poor business conditions and his inability to make collections.
Grant Harlan aged 41 of Scott township is listed in the death record. Miss Rachel Kildoo aged 80 of 9 Har ricon street is also noted in the same notice. Arthur Shoaff aged 2 of 662 Grimes street appears in the listing.
In San Francisco Al Kaufman says the September 9 bout against Jack Johnson is his big chance to reach boxing’s top. Johnson arrives from Emeryville and predicts a ninth round knockout, while Kaufman trains at Millett’s and vows the hardest fight of his career.
Frank Mike Bruno of Hillsville says he will file a charge against Captain J H Breen of the Baltimore and Ohio detective force for false arrest of his son John Bruno. He alleges John was at school when detained for larceny and that another Bruno boy is unnamed.
Grace Gardner of 203 Wallace Avenue was in a boat that capsized on Muddy Creek near Portersville. She was thrown into the water but waded ashore unharmed, then walked about a mile to dry clothing.
Friday evening a meeting of Col. Daniel Leasure Camp No. 24, U. S. W. V., will meet in their hall on the third floor of the city building. A regular meeting night will be selected and other business of importance transacted. Several applications for membership will be acted upon.
Reports from Turner New York state Harriman remains in critical condition as oxygen is administered and ice packs aim to lower fever reportedly between 104 and 106 degrees. Tower Hill guards increase as a wedding at Arden proceeds despite the crisis.
Rev. and Mrs. W. G. McConnell host a Friday evening reception at Fourth Presbyterian Church for the church baseball team winner of the Dickson & Company cup. The program includes violin solos and three addresses by Rev. H. F. Given Rev. A. B. McCormick and Attorney Robert K. Aiken with cup presentation.
