Mrs Rachel Falls Morehead aged 88, longtime New Castle resident, died at her home 122 East Street after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at the late residence. Her son T. E. Morehead and family were abroad when the death occurred. physician cites no specific disease as cause.
Mrs. Morehead born in New Castle on March 4 1823 died there on September 7 1911 after a gradual decline. She was a descendant of early Lawrence county settlers with grandfather Henry Falls arriving from Centre County Penn 1804 and building on Highland avenue near the T W Phillips home. The Falls land once covered much of the north hill and city core. Continued on Page Twelve.
Chesterfield Court House Va Sept 8 A judge convened court early to hear the final words in the Beattie murder case. Defense chief James M Smith and special prosecutor Wendenburg argued as a large crowd filled the room. Beattie expressed confidence in acquittal if jurors disagree, while maintaining calm demeanor despite the looming death penalty.
Carl Thomas, seven, son of Samuel Thomas of Volant, was seriously injured Thursday at 3 pm when he fell from a wagon. The wheels crushed his chest as he rode with farmer Collins along the Volant to New Wilmington road, and the driver could not stop the horse in time.
