Police report the body of Charles Engler 36 of Wapwallopen was found with a bullet wound in the temple inside the Wesley Auto Company office in central Nanticoke. The crime, likely after midnight, showed no sign of robbery as the window was open but no gun or other disturbance evident. Engler, described as a regular worker, was married with two children.
Mrs. Effie Nail’s Chrysler coach, license C 7 126, stolen from Shenango Tin plant area and driven to an old quarry near North Cedar Street where it was set on fire. Fire officials estimate the loss at about $1,000. The car was found burning after witnesses reported the theft between dark and midnight. Police say the vehicle was driven by Mrs Nail’s husband William Nail.
Four hundred delegates from across Pennsylvania will attend the 15th annual Fraternal Patriotic Americans gathering in New Castle September 10 to 12, with headquarters at The Castleton. Monday will be registration and committee meetings, Tuesday opens with the State Council session at Odd Fellows hall. A memorial service for former members is planned, with a program including an invocation, greetings from the city’s mayor, and a welcome address by Harry Connor.
Leslie C. Miller of Los Angeles loses day’s derby when the soft copper pipe in his Lincoln Page engine is found cut. Miller and mechanics labored overnight to repair. Experts note the ends were pinched as if by pliers, after a forced landing at Chewton on opening day.
