Gustave A. Brickner known as the Human Polar Bear set a total 36000 miles in cold water swims since age 15 on the Monongahela River at Charleroi. Slippery Rock Creek acid spill from coal stockpile prompts monitoring
Slippery Rock Creek was monitored daily after an acid spill from coal stockpiles flowed into the stream during Labor Day weekend. Rain runoff and a holding pond released acids and iron, turning the creek reddish and killing fish.
