Western diplomats accused the Soviet Union of stalling U.N. Security Council action on Dag Hammarskjold's reelection to gain leverage at the General Assembly. The council postponed its meeting as Moscow cited unreadiness to decide amid Hungary debate.
A motorist swerved to avoid a dog and crashed into a utility pole in the East side area around 7 am. The dog limped away, and residents monitor changes as Washington Street remains under construction with a new left turn policy near Croton Avenue. Foggy mornings continue and school crossing guards return to duty.

Two truck drivers were killed on U S 30 two miles west of Richmond when a third tractor trailer rammed into a parked semi as they waited to repair brakes. William J Younger 49 of Cincinnati and Michael Asa Dorzan 46 of Dayton died after Dorzan collided with Steading who was assisting Younger. Injured was William Steading 31 of Cincinnati.

The TU104A jet liner completed the first transatlantic jet passenger flight to the United States landing at McGuire Air Force Base at 10 45 p.m. e d t. The 70 ton craft carried 59 people including 18 Soviet air men and several Russian diplomats bound for a United Nations General Assembly session. The trip underscored Soviet leadership in jet passenger aviation as Western nations anticipate jet service in 1959.
Harrisburg The Forests and Waters Department said a budget cut will not stop 13 new state parks from being completed. Secretary Maurice K. Goddard projected at least four parks open next year with the rest finished in 1959 and 1960. He noted offshore drilling in Lake Erie could accelerate funds from the oil and gas lease fund to speed construction.
Three hundred employees of Holgate Brothers brush handle makers are being dismissed as the Kane plant closes Friday due to economic conditions. The company moved from Philadelphia 73 years ago.
In Cherry Tree, Venango County, Philip Rodgers 50 shot his brother Eugene about 40 then killed himself. Philip also wounded his wife Doris who is in critical condition. The feud started after Eugene was ordered to leave last Memorial Day.
City legal steps to annex 285 acres of city owned land in Shenango Neshannock and Taylor townships proceed Monday. Ordinances cover Cunningham and Cascade Parks, parks in Shenango and Neshannock, the Taylor Twp sewage plant site, and the Union Twp incinerator site. Maps will be drawn by City Engineer Dan Woolcock as the plan moves to state and county offices.
London reports that Hungarian communist police arrested three members of the British legation staff in Budapest. Interpreter Josef Molnar, a naturalized British subject, disappeared after Aug. 30 following a summons by the red police. Istvan Zalatnay, an administrative secretary, was taken during the night of Aug. 27–28. The chauffeur Laszlo Regeczy-Nagy was held on charges of anti state activities after June 20. Britain protests and seeks information on Molnar and Zalatnay’s whereabouts.
In Philadelphia three 15 year old youths Isaiah Green Jr Edwin Walker and James Crowson pleaded guilty to the robbery slaying of 74 year old Jacob Wallfield in a North Philadelphia drug store on July 25. A three judge court weighs penalties as witnesses testify.
The White House stated no federal plans exist to arrest Arkansas Governor Orval Faubus over the Little Rock school integration fight. A rumor claimed marshals would escort Black students past National Guardsmen. officials refuted the report and a reply from Faubus to President Eisenhower noted alleged plans to seize him.
Dover Air Force Base identified missing pilot 1st Lt. Herman K Trammel of Yellowtoe Town. Three other officers parachuted to safety and were rescued by fishing boats near Pickering Beach. The jets from the 98th Fighter Interceptor Squadron were on a practice low altitude mission.
Mrs. Florence Hoover, 69, died after being struck by a car driven by off duty Camden policeman George Liss. Liss said he saw a blur and felt the impact, finding Hoover unconscious. She died later at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.

The FBI has arrested Leona Jayne Angert a 27 year old bank clerk at the Mellon National Bank Butler branch and charged her with embezzling about 4000 dollars. The loss may rise to 8000 dollars after final audit. Angert waived a hearing before U S Commissioner Alex McNaugher and had worked nine years at the bank. The FBI said the embezzlement involved withholding mortgage payments.
In Atlantic City two daughters of famous fathers claim first round honors. Sara Ann Cooper Miss Missouri danced the Charleston for talent, while Lynn Freyse Miss Arizona won the first night swim suit segment in a beige and white suit.
