A massive bust of the late President John F Kennedy is installed at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC and will formally open Wednesday. The bust was created by Robert Berks near Florence Italy for the center.

Miss Carmella Marie Russo aged 27 of 508 East Sutton Street and Regina S Umling aged 71 of Ellwood City are listed in this notice.
Police say a domestic quarrel ended in a mass shooting in Phoenix. Victims include mother Novella Bentley 42 and her daughter Pamela 16 pregnant, Frank Martin 18, and four Bentleys aged 1, 2, 8, and 9 months. A suspect, John Freeman 45 from Scottsdale, was captured after fleeing the scene with minor gunshot injuries. He faced questions as neighbors recalled him visiting the home. one neighbor described the horrifying night and the family’s modest east side residence.
Carmella Marie Russo, 27, of New Castle dies after a two car collision at W Grant and Sampson streets. New Castle High halfback Jesse Moss, 18, was injured but survived. Police report Moss red light ran. no brakes noted. Russo’s death is the county's tenth traffic fatality this morning.
A total of 17 people were injured in traffic mishaps as Labor Day weekend began. A 13 year old East Side youth remains in serious condition at Jameson Memorial Hospital. Several others including Pat Heaney and Robert Hollobaugh were treated for serious and minor injuries after a chain of collisions. A one car crash on Pa 18 near the sewage plant injured four with the car destroyed and a mother driver, Patricia Peak, among the injured. A four car crash on U.S. 224 near Pa 551 left two in satisfactory condition. The report notes a motorist aided by a passerby and that the highway accidents spanned the city and county.

About 750 union members are out at North American Rockwell’s Transmission and Axle Division and Pennsylvania Engineering Corp after contract expiration. Local 1259 UAW struck the Pennsylvania plant with Pete J. Costello as representative. a dissident group of Local 4194 United Steelworkers struck Rockwell in Hobart Street, seeking a separate Confederate Independent Union. A federal court order did not end the walkouts.
A preliminary recreation study by John E. Blackson Associates outlines a five year program costing about 1.6 million with 80 percent funded by federal and state aid. It proposes a 350 thousand bond or a two mill tax paces to cover the rest and emphasizes neighborhood playgrounds and park improvements starting 1972. The plan details allocations for El Rio Beach Big Run Laurel Gunton Park Flaherty Field and other sites including a 200 thousand pool and an 111 thousand ice rink with land purchases and equipment across multiple years.
