London battles with German raiders as RAF forces repel attacks on the southeast coast. About 20 German planes downed. a squadron dropped bombs on a southeast coast town damaging a key residential area with slight casualties. An official note confirms two waves crossed the coast and more aircraft were engaged.

A 600 plus armed posse and 100 state police surrounded a swamp near Columbia where four or five escaped inmates were believed hiding with three teen hostages. One convict, Frank Conley, 34, was killed as he tried to flee. The captives are 16 year old Vincille Williams, 16 Gladys Diamond, and 17 Jerry Harrigal, seized Monday in Rayville, Louisiana. The posse planned to force a surrender, fears of harming the youths limited pursuit.
