Clarence Chamberlin among surprise Class A entrants piloting a Sperry Messenger re engine.
New York reporters note Charles Evans Hughes may lead a speaking tour as Republican forces rally around Hoover. Alfred P. Sloan Jr of General Motors endorses Hoover, while Pierre Du Pont and John Raskob back Governor Smith. Sloan stresses personal stance not tied to GM interests.
Officials of the First United Presbyterian church announced that a paper will be presented to the Lawrence county court this afternoon seeking the appointment of Lawrence Savings and Trust as guardian for Mrs Fidelia W D Falls of Cleveland. The sale of her north hill property to the church for the new building is planned at the southwest corner of Albert Street and Glenmore Boulevard, north of the Arthur McGill school, with guardianship formalities to follow.
Teachers gathered at the Senior High School at 9 am for pre term instructions as New Castle public schools prepare to open Wednesday morning at 1. About 345 teachers attended with Dr J L Reimer of Clarion State Teachers College delivering remarks on daily pupil contact and classroom potential. Building meetings followed the morning session.

The 332nd regiment plans its eighth annual reunion in Akron Ohio the weekend before Labor Day with parade and entertainment. Ollie Haag Walter Quail and Oscar Little elected to lead the organization. more than 700 veterans attended the seventh annual reunion in New Castle. The two day event included company dinners and a parade ending at Carnegie auditorium for a large entertainment program.
Butler district reports Joseph McElroy aged 50 killed when struck by a car while crossing a highway near his Muddy Creek district home. Police say Elmer G. Fifer of Punxsutawney, a State Highway Department employee, drove the vehicle in the Slippery Rock area.
Florence E Knapp former New York Secretary of State was sentenced to 30 days in Albany county jail for grand larceny related to stealing census money. The first woman elected to high office in New York state showed calm, while attorneys appealed for leniency. She faced trial twice, with a guilty verdict delivered after a fast second deliberation. The case centered on misappropriation of funds from the 1925 state census.
Labor Day traffic in the city produced multiple injuries. Anna Gershom of Crafton is in New Castle hospital in serious condition with a broken collarbone and crushed chest. Two young French airmen Adjutant Jean Assolant and Sergeant Rene Lefevre began a transatlantic attempt from Le Bourget in a Bernard single engine monoplane named Yellow Canary. The takeoff occurred at 2 04 a m New York Daylight Time with a full fuel load. The aircraft headed southwest and cleared the field without trouble as it embarked toward the Azores on the first leg to New York.
American aviators Bert Hassell and Parker Cramer, pilots of the Greater Rockford, are uninjured and in good health at Camp Lloyd in Greenland after two weeks wandering the wilderness following a forced downing on the Greenland coast. They may salvage their plane at Sukkertoppen and sail to Copenhagen. return to Rockford is hoped for mid-October depending on departure from Greenland.
