Mayor W H Gillespie announced a Shenango River channel plan completed by the Water and Power Resources Board will be submitted to council at Thursday morning’s meeting. Board representative R C Batley will confer with council and the mayor at 9 am on the survey results.
On East Washington street Pa Newc paused to hear a group of girls singing a song like Cherie, while earlier a group of young men performed at the same spot. Jack Thompson, a 14 year old from East Washington, reportedly landed a seven pound fish in Wolfe Creek. The street car company repair gang should fix paving along the area.
Gertrude Schrader an 18 year old Pittsburgh girl offered to marry any man who would provide $8000 to pay her family's bills and cure her father's blindness. A Buffalo man Louis M Smith a supposed benefactor was arrested for passing worthless checks after posing as a suitor and promising a mansion and gifts. The scheme collapsed when Smith was charged with bouncing checks for rent, furniture, and goods.
An airmail plane en route to New York from Cleveland struck the barn of George Tate near Mercer air field at 2 55 a m and was destroyed. The pilot Charles W Haas 44 escaped with a cut lip and minor bruises and was treated at Mercer hospital. A relief plane picked up the mail at 7 a m and continued to New York.
Improvements at City Hall progress steadily with a full building overhaul. Woodwork painted walls papered and council chambers being painted likely finished by week’s end. New stair treads added and entire building now presents a pleasing appearance.
Thursday September 4 marks the first day for New Castle voters to register for the November 4 general election. Registrars chair three daily sessions 7 9 am 11 am 2 pm and 4 pm 10 pm at polling places. A second day is September 16 and a final day October 4. Voters must present a county tax receipt from 1929 or 1930 to qualify.
