Toilet facilities ran short amid the busy day and the Cascade park fireworks display topped years past.
Miss Sallie Cox of 503 West Cherry street married Harvey Gwin formerly of this city now of Sharon. The ceremony took place at the bride’s parents’ home. The couple departed for a two week wedding trip to Philadelphia Atlantic City and New York before settling in Sharon.
M. Kirk reports a court ruling that overturns a 15 verdict involving mates. The decision redirects the case to new consideration, with further proceedings anticipated.
A judge set aside a $275 damages verdict in the case of Mary Geneva Mates against Frederick A. Jones and E. M. Kirk, directing judgment for the defendants. James White of Hickory township carried his daughter Carrie White to Foley Alabama after typhoid claimed her at age nineteen. William G Nelson 64, formerly of Plaingrove, died in Foley leaving a widow and children Fred Chester Renwick Margaret and James. Chester lies dying in Alabama as multiple families suffer typhoid. Interment planned in Neshannock cemetery after services at J S White home near Harlansburg.
Robert Patterson aged 87 died at his country home on the Croton avenue extension after a summer of ill health. Born November 24, 1824 in Belfast Ireland he immigrated to America in 1849 and lived in Philadelphia Pittsburg New Castle before settling in this city. He leaves a widow Mrs. Jane Patterson and children Mrs Annie Murdock Miss Rachel Patterson Mrs Mary Ellen McAnlis William Patterson and Thomas Patterson. Funeral services at 2 30 this afternoon with interment at Greenwood cemetery.

William Bowan of this city a brakeman for the Erie railroad at Youngstown was run over by a shifting engine Monday evening. One leg was crushed necessitating amputation but his condition is reported favorable.
St Marys parish schools will reopen Monday September 16 with a new addition completed and ready for occupancy at that time.
Forty seven members of the Epworth Methodist church choir and friends took a day trip to Robinsons grave at stop 82 on the Sharon car line on Monday and spent the day there.
Harriet Elliott won the Lehr piano in the Trades Assembly contest after a months long race. Her total votes reached 15 504 with no votes for other candidates when boxes opened Saturday night. The piano was awarded at Cascade park during a large celebration yesterday afternoon.
The City of New Castle sued Jacob F Genkinger over an alleged immoral show at the opera house. Genkinger was fined $100. The case was appealed and Judge Porter will issue an opinion later. Other Tuesday morning matters included Crane vs Pennsylvania and Mahoning Valley Railroad non suit motion. Maitland vs Shenango Township amendment of statement. The fourth United Presbyterian congregation protested Rev W G McConnell's release after he resigned to lead a North Warren church. Elders E H Yoho and George D Dunn were chosen to oppose the release at forthcoming conference. Conference meets at the Fourth United Presbyterian church this month.
Kirk Little of Youngstown was badly hurt when a bleacher seat collapsed at Cascade Park yesterday afternoon. He fell about 25 feet, struck his back and head, and lost consciousness. Friends led him from the grounds and he was taken home after no physician could be located on site.
E G Chapman of Winona Indiana will be in the city Friday evening to address a YMCA meeting about the Chapman revivals. The committee reports pledges sufficient to cover the required 3000 dollars for meeting expenses.
Dr and Mrs R G Boak of Crawford avenue were riding Monday when their horse stepped into an open sewer on Spruce street. The buggy was demolished and Mrs Boak was thrown but not injured.
At noon today Attorney W. K. Hugus reported 202 favorable replies to the proposition to pay New Castle Savings and Trust Company depositors. Seventy remain unanswered, with some stockholders claiming they never received the letters. A list of nonrespondents is being prepared for publication to reach those affected.
Receiver John H. Painter of the New Castle Savings and Trust company has secured rooms with Attorney J. W. Cunningham over the Citizens National Bank to settle the trust affairs. The bank building has been turned over to purchaser Charles H. Matthews.
Earl Powell a Portersville young man narrowly escaped death Monday evening after being struck by a passing train two blocks north of Gardner avenue. He was knocked along the ties. facial lacerations were severe but doctors reported no broken bones after he was hospitalized.

Dan Brouthers, official minor league scout for the New York National League club, is in New Castle to size up major league timber in the Nocks. He attends Sharon’s game this afternoon.
While alighting from a moving street car on East Long avenue Monday evening, Ralph Blaine of South Jefferson street fell and fractured his right arm at the wrist. The injury is described as painful.
