State police search for two convicts who escaped from Rockview Penitentiary during exercise by scaling a 12-foot stockade wall. Kenneth Perrine, 26, of Mercer and Eugene Roney, 38, of McKeesport, fled Friday night. A third inmate, Robert Lenigan, 41, fell and was injured. Perrine, a 1968 murder victim’s case and rape of two Slippery Rock College coeds, faces 20 years for rape. Roney faces one to three years for prison breach. Lenigan holds 24 years for armed robbery, burglary, larceny and receiving stolen goods.
North Vietnam announced the release of three American pilots and the capture of two others as it marked its 27th Independence Day. U S forces said laser guided bombs destroyed two bridges on a Hanoi route to China while Hanoi accused U S bombs of targeting populated areas.
