Tragic Death in County Jail Ends Lucas Case
W H Lucas, a 35 year old man from Culpepper Virginia, hanged himself in the county jail after being arrested on a burglary charge in the Kennelly block. A note addressed to Lillian Walker of Franklin, Pennsylvania, preceded his death and indicated a troubled pursuit of Walker who had followed him to New Castle. Lucas left behind a wife and two children in Pittsburg and had been sentimentally entangled with Walker after serving as a hotel butler in Franklin. The case prompted official investigation as Sheriff Waddington and Coroner Cox processed the scene and found the indelible note in Lucas pockets.
