Death Toll Rises 45 Hours To Go In Thanksgiving Peak
United Press International reports more than 270 people died in traffic accidents over the Thanksgiving period as hazardous East weather threatens to push the toll higher. At 8:30 a.m. EST the count stood at 272 dead since the weekend began. The rate ran about four deaths per hour, below typical four day weekend levels. Risk from heavy snow and rain loomed.

Four Missing As Craft Sinks One Saved In Yacht Fire
The Navy rescued the sole survivor of the yacht Judy's five aboard after it sank in 30-foot waves during a Friday night storm 100 miles off Charleston. Robert Stanton 33 Eastman Georgia and George Donald Kidd 21 Paramount California were recovered with Kidd found floating face down. The missing include Armand Colbert head of Colbert Transportation Co Long Beach California and an elderly California woman. Rescue planes circled as 60 mph winds whipped 30-foot seas with the vessel catching fire after two auxiliary tanks broke loose. The sinking forced Stanton Colbert and Kidd to leap overboard after tying ropes to stay with the listing ship.
