Israeli and Egyptian warplanes clashed over Israel with two Egyptian planes reported shot down. Gunfire erupted along the Israeli Jordanian border as tensions in the border conflict intensified.
The General Assembly appears likely to reject a United Nations seat for Communist China for the seventeenth time since 1950. The U.S. seeks a two thirds vote to force membership, backing a resolution to expel Nationalist China. Also, an Israeli-Egyptian air clash over Israel’s borders led to suspected downings as regional tension rises with Jordan and Palestine refugees.
Thirty five residents faced lawsuits seeking 33796 in back municipal wage tax penalties. Attorney Robert D. George filed the suits in county court alleging non payment over up to ten years with 100 annual penalties per defendant. Names and amounts owed listed for each defendant in the report.
Washington reports a federal effort to ease home loan pressure as Fannie Mae will purchase 250 million dollars of FHA and VA single family mortgages. The move aims to spur about 15,000 new homes and support the homebuilding sector.

A 2 million budget plan was introduced by the city council. It includes a $20 monthly wage increase for employees funded by existing taxes. The plan projects about $57,000 in extra revenue driven by the raise and a five year loan payment. The raise costs roughly $67,000 and requires cutting fire and police staffing from 58 to 56, reducing salaries by $10,000 per department. No current employees are affected. The first payment on a $136,000 capital loan totals $27,280. Revenue from property sales, including the old sewage treatment plant, and tax increases fund the larger budget. The sale proceeds are projected at $67,000, with $8,200 owed to Consoer Townsend for a master airport plan.
UPI reports B53 bombers hit Viet Cong positions 260 miles north of Saigon in a predawn raid aiding U.S. ground forces in the Paul Revere IV area. In Monday clashes 53 enemies were killed. two American soldiers died in a UH-1 helicopter downing near Saigon.
