Nellie V. Gilberson a 57 year old Minneapolis schoolteacher was jailed without charge as a special grand jury investigates the death of her friend Minnie M. Easthagen a 60 year old Minneapolis teacher found dead in a Rochester hotel room. An examiner says Easthagen died from strangulation by external means possibly by another person. The two had shared a hotel room during Mayo Clinic visits and Easthagen’s body was sent back to Minneapolis by taxicab. County Attorney Thomas Scanlan quotes Gilberson saying they quarreled and she knew Minnie was dead after everything went blank.
London reports heavy Allied air assaults on Essen the Ruhr industrial city and Meuss base with Lancaster and Halifax bombers. Later, formations of bombers with fighters were seen crossing the eastern coast for continent missions after a night attack on Nurnberg. A Mosquito sweep against Germany preceded the raids.
