State police are probing a late Wednesday robbery beating while city patrolmen investigate an armed robbery at the Big Bear Service station on West State Street. Tex rancher faces murder charges after fatal kitchen shooting

Coroner rules murder in Ridgview death at Hawley home
Wayne County Coroner Robert Jennings ruled that 15 year old Louis Novak, described as mentally retarded, was murdered by resident patients at Ridgeview in Hawley. The death on August 20, 1972, was caused by others holding him under water and bathing him against his will. A lack of proper supervision was listed as a contributing factor.
