Ellwood City Moose club sought a charter to run reading rooms for literary research. Judge Porter conditioned approval on a by law prohibiting sideboards and liquor in club rooms. The decision and its implications for similar clubs are awaited.
Buffalo jurors convict Joseph H. Miller and Horace J. Miller of using the mails to defraud in a scheme that drained about 750000 dollars with 350 or more local New Castle investors losing money. Ezra Ashmore and his daughter Ethel Ashmore testified, noting 76,000 dollars collected in 1907 from New Castle residents. Millers face up to seven and a half years in prison at sentencing next Monday.
James C Nelson aged 68 of New Bedford passed away. Funeral arrangements and obituary details are to be announced by the family.
Eyewitnesses testified at a coroner’s inquest that Alf M Brown’s auto struck Miss Mabel Wilson at the Croton avenue crossing. Witnesses assigned speeds from 10 to 40 miles an hour with conflicting horn signals and the crash occurring as the car turned to avoid the two crossing pedestrians.

Alexis W. Thompson a former resident and Inman Steel Co. director now in Cleveland visits New Castle to attend the Cunningham-Pearson wedding and plans to remain several days. He splits time between Chicago and Cleveland with Inman offices in Chicago and has past ties to Republic Iron and Steel Shenango Valley Hospital and Sharpsville furnace. He will visit friends and stay in New Castle several days while in the area.
The New Castle lodge No. 69 B P O E announces the annual memorial service to honor seven members who died in 1909. Principal address by Leo O'Brien of McKeesport. The event is Sunday December 5 at the opera house with Elks orchestra, solos by Mrs. F S McCullough and John T Tarantais Thomas, and a full program of ceremonial rites.
The Pittsburg Street child Virginia Patterson daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Browne Patterson suffers four illnesses at once measles scarlet fever diphtheria and whooping cough. Measles appeared yesterday but the patient shows some improvement since Sunday and doctors hold cautious hope for recovery despite the grave combination.
No paper will be issued tomorrow from this office. All employees may observe Thanksgiving in the fullest and best way.

Alderman Ranney held decisions until Saturday in the alleged illegal liquor selling case brought by Frank Martini against Frank Vicchio Scott Paisley and Frank Hannon. Martini, jailed for conspiracy to extort, was arrested this week as detectives used bills marked by the district attorney and local investigators. Evidence showed Joe Ross claimed he bought beer at Vicchio’s while Martini and Detective Wiggins arranged the arrest. The warrant originated with Alderman Ranney and was to be served by a deputy. In the Paisley and Hannon case Paisley was reportedly sick and Hannon away. a clerk denied selling liquor and Hannon said clerks were instructed not to sell liquor.
Governor Marshall received a request from Lawrence County Sheriff John H. Todd for troops to quell the Bedford quarrymen strike. He cited dangerous conditions and insufficient deputy presence to maintain order.

Mahoningtown at Third Christian with Rev M Wilson Keith. Gospel Tabernacle schedules 3 pm sermon by Rev J H Boon and evening by Rev John Coxe. Ray Street Mission to hold 730 pm service with Rev Wilson. St Luke's AME Zion to host city wide colored union with Rev Wilkes. Fourth Presbyterian to convene at 10 30 am with Rev G S W Phillips delivering sermons and a program of hymns prayers and readings.
The Almira Home association will hold its annual meeting next Tuesday November 30 at Bethany Lutheran Church Pittsburg Street opposite the home. Session starts 10 AM with reports and business. Members paying $1 in the past year may vote. Mrs Mary Davidson will preside. Lunch served at noon for visiting delegates from four other counties and Lawrence. Afternoon officer elections follow.
In Butler Missouri on Friday afternoon Congressman David A. De Armond and his seven year old grandson David Wadsworth De Armond will be buried side by side in Oak Hill Cemetery. A double funeral will honor the elder statesman and the boy found died together in the blaze that destroyed the congressman's home.
