Police probe stabbing in Natrona Heights death
Allegheny County detectives questioned a man over the fatal stabbing of John L. Beck 25 and wounding of Beatrice 21 in Natrona Heights apartment. Two intruders bound Beck and stabbed him 31 times then stabbed Beatrice seven times. Their 2 year old child Tammy escaped unharmed. Mrs Beck managed to call a telephone operator then staggered outside with a knife in her back. Investigators found an eight inch butcher knife from the Becks kitchen. Also in Dallas, composer Phil K Baxter died at 76 after work with Crosby and big bands.

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Battle Mountain left four occupants injured and one killed. Larry Grannis 18 and Marian Grannis 46 of 607% Court St. were injured. UPI reports the loss of a 1 million F111 swing wing bomber as the fourth American jet downed in three days. Two crewmen are missing. North Vietnamese targets were hit in 15 raids by B-52 Stratofortresses, a record for a single night. Three other downed aircraft were F4 Phantoms with one shot down over North Vietnam, another over Thailand, and the third over Laos. Of six crewmen, one is missing, two killed, and three rescued.
