State police clear Capitol rotunda after $50 welfare bonus protest
About 400 demonstrators from Philadelphia and Chester staged a day long sit in at the Pennsylvania Capitol to demand a $50 pre Christmas welfare bonus. By 11:10 p.m. roughly 150 protesters had been ejected by state troopers under Captain Charles Graci with care to avoid injuries. Governor Shafer declined to meet them this week but said no disruption would be tolerated and relief increases take effect January 1.
