Ground fighting focused on the central front as South Korean troops with Allied support regained Rocky Point after a Chinese push.

Eight people were jailed in New York after raids netting 1 525 000 in heroin and crippling a Harlem dope ring with reach to the Midwest. Narcotics detectives and federal agents said the arrests break up most of a racket in Harlem and linked four suspects to unsolved gang murders. The heroin was described as highly potent and the operation involved a bartender and a waitress accused of selling from a storage stock.
New Delhi reports quote mountaineering circles speculating a Swiss team may have reached the south summit of Everest about 300 feet below the main summit. Climbers were within 200 feet of the peak before last week end descent, with no further word since.
Three Navy Reserve pilots from Los Alamitos Calif. shot down two MiG-15s and damaged a third in an air battle off Korea. The engagement occurred about a hundred miles southeast of Chongjin as four MiGs clashed with three F9F Panthers from CF781 aboard the carrier Oriskany. No Navy jets were lost though one was damaged and returned to the ship. Lt. E. R. Williams and Lt. J. D Middleton were credited with the kills.
Harry M. Pettitt age 50 of A D 1 died in New Castle hospital from head injuries after his car was hit by Sidney Kaiser 33 at 5 15 p m five miles southeast of the city on Route 88 State Police and Coroner Charles F Allen investigate Kaiser allegedly ran a stop sign at Center church corner Pettitt was with wife Stella and daughter Barbara en route to New Castle for Mrs Pettitt medical care. COUDERSPORT Pa November 18 The first fatality of Pennsylvania s big game season was reported today as about 150 000 hunters were in the forests on the opening day of the six day bear season Kermit Buchman of Scherersville Lehigh County man was found near Coudersport with a bullet wound and authorities said he was apparently struck by a stray bullet.

Murray S. Stephens elected executive vice president of the Greater New Castle Association at a special GNCA board meeting. Stephens, former secretary of the Connersville Chamber of Commerce, is a Danville Indiana native with studies at Washington University and the University of Illinois. He will assume duties between now and January 1 1953.
The Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women met in Harrisburg and adopted a resolution urging the 1954 legislature to provide for a constitutional convention.
Four Lawrence County law school graduates passed the Pennsylvania State Board of Law Examiners, earning eligibility to practice in Lawrence County courts as well as Superior and Supreme courts. They must complete six months of clerkship and gain a sponsor before admission. The group includes Howard C. Klebe, Don Nicolls, Marjorie Powell Young, and Joseph Jancuzkiewicz.
Five Denver men who boxed in Salt Lake City died when their car slid on ice and plunged into the Bear River near Evanston Wyoming. The victims were manager Joe Levenson trainer James Bealer fighters George Harvey Garfield Sisneros and Lee Kreamer Freeman Loften. Injured boxer Jimmy McDonald survived in good condition at Uinta County Hospital. The group had appeared on a Rex Layne Al Spaulding card.
The death notices report Harry M. Pettitt age 54 of R. D. 1 and Mrs. Hilma S. Ericksen age 70 of 915 Clarence Avenue, with pending details for burial and obituary notices.
